TWL vs TWL
As the release of BF2 drew nearer and nearer, all of us were growing anxious about the future of TWL – would we accept this new game as the main source of mutual fun? When it finally arrived only about half of us were able to play it, a clear schism were developing between those who had it and those that had not yet tested it for other reasons. In a masterful stroke, and probably motivated by greed, the founders organized a birthday party!
In other words, a stupendous weekend of battle tales and heavy drinking was planned and here follows the account of the Wermland Squad, Tanker Levin has the word;
“My own plan was to camouflage the tank and go by train, incognito in the midst of such enemy clans as vXo on Friday but as luck would have it, Belchebob would be returning on Saturday morning as the main tactics called for our meet that evening.. Cavehobbit agreed to go along so our merry squad set out in excellent form. A tanker, a pilot and a bomber pilot, nothing could stop us now.
Early radio communiqués showed that our brothers were heavily under fire, the usual cursing ensued by happy exclamations as they heard the word. Reinforcements were under way!”
The convoy started out from Karlstad early on Saturday morning, nearly at the crack of dawn (10 am). Fairly soon we had to hunt for gasoline, the damn thing is getting expensive.
Voice communication with the front was sporadic, extremely bad weather and a low cloud deck made flying all but impossible. We were reduced to text communication only, flashes on the horizon told the ugly tale. Heavy fighting and we were still hours away.
At last we made it past the formidable ‘Hallandsås’, a defensive line that had no stopping power for ‘Wermland Squad’. The end of the road in sight – to our surprise we saw sunlight and a patch of blue?
Turning the last corner we found the entire team entrenched, under heavy artillery rain from the Danish forces of Carlsberg. Bravely Belchebob dived right in, Cavehobbit trailing behind to rescue and medevac anyone too heavily incapacitated. As for me, well, I placed my stalwart tank mentality (say ‘no to Carlsberg&rsquo at the disposal of the team and by sheer amount of troops we endured the Carlsberg assault. There was much rejoycement.
All around us, there were muzzle flashes going off. Answered in turn by comrades as in all battles there is a certain amount of tk’ing and counter fire.
Iron rations were brought out, the TWL troopers looking lean and mean already would probably be even more so after this meal.
A newcomer to the support staff (girlfriend of legendary InsanityClaus) helped however by making a splendid cake, fattening us up for those cold wintery nights.
After night had fallen we drew back into the bunkers nearby, again under attack from the Carlsberg forces but amazingly so far no casualties. Multiple small flashes in the confined quarters as new foes were discovered, a vicious one named ‘G-T’ were taking its toll on the troops. One by one they began showing signs of wear, slouching down to the floor. It was hard seating since there was only one bed, those most in need (the founding fathers of the company) took their places. The infamous ‘Wine’ also began to target those already under the influence, there would be hell to pay in the coming days of healing up.
Club Zebra valiantly threw himself in harms way, taking on stupendous amounts of the vicious Carlsberg, Flamingo however was besieged by both the ‘G-T’ and ‘Wine’ badly and was only rescued by the aid of Tubbe who took on some G-T of his own.
Nanna fragged a few of the ‘Wine’ foes, keeping up wonderfully and showing not one bit the worse for wear. She talked a bit about training up for medic, Flamingo should prove a nice first case come the morning then (He looked ok the day after).
Trollankan proved capable even out of the water and held his own, the flashes bursting all around as he passed the meagre rations (chilli nuts) around.
Febben took brief scouting trips to the outside, peeking out with a stress releasing smoking cigarette, always returning with good news of the night being calm. But how the devil did all those Carlsbergers slip through the watch??
Belchebob had his usual deal with you-know-who, fragging his share and still going strong. Something about that midnight ‘Sibylla Meal’ on the way home to quarters probably helped.
Cavehobbit and myself avoided all of the enemy forces attempts to incapacitate us, very nice stat score indeed although we didn’t frag any of the Carlsberg’ers.
InsanityClaus did a few TD’s, accidentally I’m sure (serving G-T’s and other beverages), but on the overall score he succeeded admirably. He even kept the support staff (GF) in a happy mood (where did they go we wondered?).
Lizard handled the communications, radioing the only flier able to keep to the air – HazMupp. As time went past it became more and more difficult for our sleep-deprived airman to send us recon photos, in spite of Tubbes very encouraging song he had to go down for rest.
The sounds of war drew nearer – the very room right outside sounded like it was under siege, so we fortified ourselves and huddled together. Swapping stories and enduring the endless hours until dawn and retreat homewards.
After a few hours of rest we found sunlight straying in through the windows, a glorious day of rest and recreation. After a few hurried radio messages the troop gathered in the city square by the statue of a hero (or something other). By foot, apc (rollerblades) or jeep (bicycles) we then proceeded to have a spot of breakfast. Mightily we wolfed down bacon and eggs, the very stuff of life (for English it seems) and proceeded to secure a reward for the troops excellent performance yesterday. Ice-cream party on the lawn!
Little did we know that Flamingo, the relentless leader he is would take us on a brutal exercise later on. As afternoon drew on we went down to the beach for ‘more recreation’ where we were forced to hike through mountains of sand and waded whole oceans. We fired our weapons, gun flashes everywhere but fragged little I’m afraid to say. Must’ve been yesterday still hanging over us.
To round the day off, the Wermland Squad did a recon to a nearby city (I’m nearly a native after all) and checked out possibly sniper sites (the always go for the church towers and what a mighty city church there was) to be reported back at evening meal with Flamingo and Nanna.
We discussed much tactics (what to pick from the buffet), the result of yesterday’s battle and future plans of development. Also all who attended that evening was awarded fifty extra ‘jollers’ in recognition of extreme fortitude and sense of duty.
Overall, a good couple of days skirmishing and battling with TWL. Life is good in TWL.
