TWL vs GFC
Well, this has been a bad season for TWL, no doubt about that. If we look beyond the stats we see quite a lot of effort though we may have lost all points it certainly wasn’t for lack of fighting.
In every game we have given fair resistance and killed our share, consistently loosing and being zeroed because of our failure to get the men into the flag area or clean out opposing squad leaders when they are close to main flags. Having said that we do wish to attribute our loosing those matches, a little, to our skilled opponents.
Todays match was set against Gutta Fra Calcutta, who looked to be leading the division at present, on Zatar and Oman. In the warmup we discovered that one of GFC had a ping of 100+ and upon request agreed to play the last two rounds on the GFC server, we’re a sporting bunch. We could have switched over right away but we felt it would take too much time and we were ready to fight!
Zatar – TWL as US.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Thus strengthened we raced to battle, one buggy straight up the middle, APC close behind, second buggy southwards and into the middle over the water crossing and me plodding behind in the tank.
I’m not sure the battle for the flag was very fierce, TWL won it and attempted to lift with the heli only to be gunned down by a APC on overwatch at the bridge to GFC main. I was too late for a bodyguard shield, took some damage to the tank even so and promptly was shot to pieces when their armour rolled up. With excellent GFC infantry we lost the flag and had to restart from main.
A continuous call for dropped buggies from the infantry signalled their attempts to gain the middle (I’d like to meet the idiot designer that only gave the US buggies on this map as a rotate able machinegun would have been excellent for AA purposes) but dying in droves to the merciless Mec heli gunner.
Meantime my fellow APC and I tried to gain ground forwards and aid in the enemy heli takedown but a fiery death was all that we were given…until the GFC armour started to roll over the southern bridge. For a few minutes we had a very nice little tank & APC battle, it they hadn’t had the heli we would’ve held our own I’m wagering but alas those TV missiles are damned hard to dodge.
Soon we were shot to pieces and GFC infantry swarmed from the weak southern approach up onto the main flag and viola, it came down like a charm. The hunt was on and we were zeroed.
GFC 130 – 0 TWL
Zatar – TWL as MEC
“One of the bravest men that I ever saw was a fellow on top of a telegraph pole in the midst of a furious fire fight in Tunisia. I stopped and asked what the hell he was doing up there at a time like that. He answered, "Fixing the wire, Sir". I asked, "Isn't that a little unhealthy right about now?" He answered, "Yes Sir, but the Goddamned wire has to be fixed". I asked, "Don't those planes strafing the road bother you?" And he answered, "No, Sir, but you sure as hell do!" Now, there was a real man. A real soldier. There was a man who devoted all he had to his duty, no matter how seemingly insignificant his duty might appear at the time, no matter how great the odds. And you should have seen those trucks on the rode to Tunisia. Those drivers were magnificent. All day and all night they rolled over those son-of-a-bitching roads, never stopping, never faltering from their course, with shells bursting all around them all of the time. We got through on good old American guts. Many of those men drove for over forty consecutive hours. These men weren't combat men, but they were soldiers with a job to do. They did it, and in one hell of a way they did it. They were part of a team. Without team effort, without them, the fight would have been lost. All of the links in the chain pulled together and the chain became unbreakable."
Time to hunker down and do our duty too – we raced into the flag area, GCF were already there and had the flag most of the way down. As usual the APC were way ahead of me so I took the slow route up on the south side (not the first road up but the second jeep road by the shed) with my tank and caught a few AT infs looking the other way.
Side by side, our APC and me grinded it out until our infantry had killed off the enemy and the flag turned ours. We got the heli up and started trying to get control over the situation only to find that the entire GCF seemed to have spawned up as AT infs with a vengeful greeting for our poor heli team. Boom went the birdie. And our armour.
Desperate moments ensued in the middle as we brought up new heavies from the back, only in time to help recap the flag oncemore. Our excellent Febben had thrown out a few mines, something I missed in the excitement and promptly I got to knock on heavens gates for 15 seconds again.
Respawning we duked it out at main with a GCF jeep attack, we sorted that out only to race forwards and get scattered by the tricky deployment of enemy transports. One jeep went north, one south, APC middle and tank challenging me…puh, sweaty. Once the dust cleared we had lost the hill flag! Damnation, I was still alive for a second or two until I bought another ticket to St Peter.
Kicked back to main, we tried to regain momentum and take back the middle, we had a jeep inf assault their main but time ran out.
TWL 95 – 30 GFC
Half-time switch to GFC server, ping was ok so we pushed on.
Oman –TWL as US
If we wish to be free -- if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending -- if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us!
Our genius plan was to hit the GFC tank, take it out, go for their main and in the process battle us past their tank spawn and snatch it from them. So said we sent the jeep squad to the train crossing, the second jeep to cover the west. My tank and a AT gunner covered the middle and east approach.
The reports came in rapidly “Enemy tank is out!”, “Jeep, no TWO jeeps on eastern wing”, “Jeeps are out!” and in that moment I decided to use a little personal initiative, with the help of AT gunner Hitman we took the city flag while the tank-hit-squad worked on GFC main.
We held onto it for a few minutes but then all of a sudden GCF rallied magnificently and rolled into the city with tank and AT support, another ticket to the great beyond and I was back home. Damnation.
A couple of jeep raids placed the GFC infantry in our main, harassing us beautifully. Leaving just one man at the train crossing we attempted desperately to clear them out from main but that was when we suddenly got ambitious and two TWL infs were suddenly taking the city flag by jeep. This drain on our strength lost us the ability to hang onto our tank and pretty swiftly we had gone from 3 flags to 0 flags.
GFC 75 – 0 TWL
Oman – TWL as Mec
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.
Despondent we setup again and it would seem GFC had mercifully decided to make things quick on us. We sent our jeep raiding for their tank again but we failed to intercept their jeep raiding our main!
Within a minute of the round start we had lost the main and were down to the city flag, holy bungling bolloxes Batman! The entire TWL infantry team charged back while I stayed behind to hold onto the city flag and challenge my opposite number. Said and done, we duked out a lot of long potshots with a supply crate each so it was pointless target practice really. A few minutes later we had recapped the main but after another minute the city flag was lost as both AT’s and tank charged forwards.
Chaos reigned and GFC seemed to be everywhere, despite our cleverly disorganized defence they took the flag and we were zeroed again.
GFC 140 – 0 TWL
Total score: GFC 375 – 95 TWL
I’ve overlooked a number of events no doubt, among me being the last player alive on one of the rounds but I was pretty tired so I can’t remember detauls too well – in fact I believed that the game was over by the end of round three and said so…eh. Noob.
The writer would like to thank GFC for a very nice game and for the sporting manner in which you conduct your gaming. Good luck in future!
For closing words, lets read a little bit of King. Thank you for your endurance.
Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.
.....
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today.
